Why are Overweight individuals able to build muscle and lose fat but skinny people aren't?

Hey Mark! My friend used to be overweight and I mean really big, now he's losing weight and I see that he has gotten bigger too. For me I had to Bulk to optimize muscle growth. How is it that he's gotten bigger while in a caloric deficit?

It's all an illusion, I don't think it matters! Look at Dexter Jackson's calves...
