what do you do to prevent plateuing? And what pushes you to lift heavier? (Progressive overload)

Music? Diet? Rest days? Lightweight & heavyweight days? What breaks the barrier people face when trying to lift heavier constiantly? 

Deload weeks help as does switching up exercises. We all will plateau and have to cope with stagnation
